Panel 513R tags were cut from the 513R panel of ex-Luftwaffe RF-4E 35+63. Assigned to Aufklärungsgeschwader 51 (AG51) “Immelmann“, this aircraft was one of only two RF-4Es in German service -though briefly- to wear a shark mouth on its nose. The 513R panel is an RF-4 specific access panel, not found in other F-4 Phantom variants, located at the base of the vertical stabilizer, covering the UHF antenna. Made of fiber to allow antenna signals to pass through.
The tags are painted in FS 34012 Medium Green, which was applied on the panel after 35+63 was transferred to the Turkish Air Force in 1993. Impressively, two of the tags in this variant will feature the original “513R” stencil. I’ve created 20 tags from this variant, and for the first time, I experimented with a new technique. After the graphics were laser-etched on the tag, the etched lines were hand-painted in white to enhance visibility and ensure long-lasting graphics on the tag. And, for the first time -again-, a different graphic design was used for this tag, featured an underside nose profile of the RF-4E to emphasize the cameras mounted on its nose.
