The Panel 66L tags were crafted from a particularly unique access panel number 66L. While the 66L panel itself lacked any identifying marks to trace it to a specific RF-4E serial number, the tags cut from it are truly exceptional. The most notable feature of these tags is their extremely rough surface. This is because the 66L panel was part of the walkway area located on top of the RF-4’s fuselage. Its anti-skid texture was created by blending aluminum oxide grits into the camouflage paint, resulting in a much rougher and thicker finish, allowing maintenance crews to walk on it with ease. Another standout feature is that the tags retain their original green color and light grey stencils from the German Norm 83A camouflage scheme.
All tags are made of thick aluminum and have parts of the grey stenciling on them. Tag numbers 009, 010, and 011 also include steel plates riveted to their back sides.
