The Photoflash Door tags were cut from the photoflash door of German Air Force RF-4E Phantom “35+41,” the 41st RF-4E ever produced. This aircraft served for many years with the Luftwaffe’s reconnaissance unit, Aufklärungsgeschwader 52 (AG 52), before being transferred to the Turkish Air Force in 1993. It was eventually retired in the late 2000s.
The photoflash bay was a feature unique to the RF-4 variant, not present on any other F-4 models. Located on the aft section of the fuselage, it was used to eject flash cartridges during night reconnaissance missions. Like many F-4 doors, the inner surface of the photoflash door was painted red, and the tags in this release were cut from that inner panel.
Some of the tags include sections of the original warning sticker or part data plate, adding to their uniqueness and collectible appeal.
