Research on aviation history

FIGHTERTAGS research articles explore the history behind the aircraft and components used in our releases. Each article focuses on a specific aircraft, airframe, component or historical event, with the aim of documenting the story behind the metal rather than simply presenting the finished tag.

Our research often begins with a surviving piece of aircraft skin or structure and develops through technical manuals, maintenance records, photographs, serial numbers, production histories and historical sources. Particular attention is given to identifying exactly where a component came from, which aircraft it belonged to, and what can be learned from the physical evidence that remains on the part.

These articles are part of an ongoing effort to preserve and share the history contained in original aircraft components. Some conclusions may change as new evidence comes to light, and in cases where the available evidence is incomplete, we will clearly distinguish documented facts from interpretation.

This is one of those research stories which led me to uncover the identity of “White 05” from its shattered remains.
