Stenciled yellow tags were cut from the stenciled sections of fire access panels of two Belgian AF F-104G Starfighters, serial numbers FX22 and FX27. The stencils written on those panels were in three languages, French, Dutch and English!

The red color on these tags were part of a marking that was defined as the “Jet Warning Stripe” in USAF Technical Order 1-1-4, “F-104 Aircraft Marking Specification” from 1964. It was a two-inch-wide red warning stripe painted around the outside of the F-104’s engine bay to mark the plane of rotation of the turbines in the J79 engine. Its purpose was to warn ground personnel not to stand in line with this area while the jet engine was running or while the turbines were in motion, as in the event of a turbine rotor failure, a broken turbine blade or other rotor component could be ejected outward through the fuselage along this plane of rotation, potentially injuring personnel nearby.
