The Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 tags were cut from the left side tail wheel landing gear doors which was a K-4 specific part given the fact that only the K-4 had those doors among all Bf109s produced.
The door was discovered at a dump site at Königsberg Airbase, together with several other Bf 109 parts several years ago. As there was no marking or stamp on the door, the aircraft’s serial number could not be identified. However, it was clearly from one of the K-4s operated by Jagdgeschwader 51 “Mölders”, which was the only Luftwaffe unit flying the K-4 while based at Königsberg.
