The F-104S Starfighter tags in the Christmas 2025 release were cut from a NOS F-104S structural part featuring an absolutely beautiful set of factory stamps. One of these stamps includes the year 1982, and in order to preserve it, the tag #061 was made two millimeters wider than the standard tag size. Tag #061 also carries a historically significant stamp reading “SM,” which stands for the Italian aircraft manufacturer Savoia-Marchetti, best known for its World War II bombers such as the SM.79 Sparviero. This stamp is particularly meaningful because Savoia-Marchetti ceased to exist after being absorbed by other Italian aviation companies in 1983, just one year after this F-104S part was produced. Lastly, the aircraft artwork on the tags were positioned to clearly show the wing and a Sparrow missile, as the F-104S was the only Starfighter variant capable of carrying the AIM-7.
